About this deal

The Metcon Turbo 2 made just about every exercise we did on our HIIT workouts, from burpees to jumps to sled pushes, much more natural-feeling thanks to its exceptional flexibility. And indeed, our lab test proved how pliable the shoe is as it took 32% less force to bend it 90 degrees. If you have additional questions on the sizing and fit of the Reebok HIIT 2, drop a comment below and I can help you size your shoes accordingly. Reebok HIIT 2 Vs Reebok HIIT TR There are three key differences that I think are worth noting between the Reebok HIIT TR and Reebok HIIT 2. These differences include their upper constructions, midsole materials, and bootie fit and feel. Tabata’s original protocol has morphed in many directions. Yet, at its core, the HIIT program involves alternating short periods of high-intensity, all-out exercise with short intervals of rest or active recovery. Who is HIIT for?

The best trainers for the gym really depends on the specific type of exercise you will be doing. For example, if you’re hitting the treadmill, you’ll want a pair of running shoes specifically designed for running, while if HIIT is more your thing, you might be better off with cross-training shoes that offer a steady footing during squats, burpees and reverse lunges – while also being stylish enough to wear with jeans on rest days, too. In the Reebok HIIT 2, I’ve trained up to 315 lbs and they did an okay job at supporting that load without a ton of compression. I wouldn’t train much heavier than this weight, however, for what this shoe is and its price I feel 315 lbs is a pretty good threshold especially for those buying this shoe primarily for classes and HIIT workouts. Does your arch feel supported? Are the laces tight? Is there enough cushioning around your midfoot reduce the chances of a sprain? For lifting weights, the Reebok HIIT 2 does surprisingly well. When you have cross-training shoes dedicated to HIIT workouts it’s normal to see their lifting performance go down slightly. In the Reebok HIIT 2, their performance does fairly well for what this shoe offers and if you get this model for casual weight lifting, then I think you’ll like them. Additionally, I thought the EVA midsole did a good job at walking the line between stability and reactivity, so in plyometrics, you get a nice level of support for takeoff and landing. The rigid rubber outsole was another nice addition for multi-traction activities. Day-to-Day and Shorter Runs

What are some of the most popular brands making gym trainers?

The forefoot of the Nano X3 felt a bit firm. Our HA durometer in the lab revealed that the forefoot has a firmness score of 27.6, which is a notch higher than the 26.6 average. The setup gave us more speed and control, pretty much what we needed when executing many HIIT exercises. In comparison to running shoes, cross trainers tend to have less cushioning in the heel and more in the midsole region. The toe box in a cross-training shoe is roomier than in a running shoe. Cross trainers also have a lower heel-to-toe drop than either a running or a weightlifting shoe. Average heel-to-toe drop From a lifting point of view, this model will work for casual and recreational training. Basically, if you want to wear this shoe for mostly class workouts and HIIT training, then for lifting here and there it will work. It’s moderately stable for loading up to 365 lbs, but I wouldn’t train much heavier than that in this shoe. The HIIT workout plan turned on an ‘afterburn effect’, which increased athletes’ post-training metabolism. This allowed them to burn more calories for the next 24 hours. When you’re doing a HIIT workout, you do not want as much heel-to-toe drop as a weightlifting, or even a running, shoe. The forward angle will instantly detract from your stability. To ensure that your weight remains centered and your foot stable, look for a shoe with a heel-to-toe drop of around 4-6 mm (but no more than 8 mm).

Heel drop is the distance between the height of the heel and the height of the toe. The baseline heel drop would be if you were working out in bare feet. In that case, your heel drop would be zero as the heel and the toes are the same distance from the floor. Most running shoes have a heel drop of around 10 mm. This higher heel position allows for cushioning under the heel and encourages a heel-to-toe strike running action. Reebok HIIT 2 Sizing Thoughts: Go true-to-size unless you feel like you normally have a lot of room in the toe box of your shoes. If this is you, then size down a half size.

In a rush? The best gym trainers 2023 at a glance:

On a daily wear basis, this model works well and is overall pretty comfortable. This shoe reminds me a lot of the Reebok Nano X1’s feel for daily wear, but I would actually grab this model over the X1 because it does have a slight edge for being a bit plusher comparatively speaking. Plus, the price point makes this a good shoe for beating up as a daily driver.

The best gym trainers for you depend on your activity of choice, but in general, you’ll want to ask yourself the following: If you can contextualize the construction of this model to your performance needs, then I think this is a good shoe for certain activities. For example, it’s not the best for heavy training, but it wasn’t designed to do that. If your HIIT workout involves jumping to the sides, such as when doing lateral jumping lunges, the traction of your sole is going to determine whether you perform the action fluidly or whether you end up sliding, and potentially twisting an ankle. For sprints and shorter runs, this model will also get the job done. It has good traction for sprints and its midsole does an okay job at making this model moderately comfortable for shorter runs under two miles. Reebok HIIT TR Sizing Elsewhere, if you are going to be doing a lot of weightlifting, you may want to consider a weightlifting shoe with a flat, hard sole for stability. The most important thing is to choose a workout shoe that’s comfortable and supportive – and make sure that your gym trainers have non-marking outsoles (‘cos no one wants to be seen scuffing up a pristine gym floor).Using an HC durometer, we discovered that the outsole of this shoe has a rating of 85.5, which is higher than the 84.4 average. The firmness of the sole allowed it to resist punctures caused by pebbles and other debris that are commonly seen on outdoor surfaces. Designed to offer a range of benefits across the whole span of functional training disciplines, the Metcon 7 (a blending of 'metabolic' and 'conditioning', if you were wondering) has some nice features added to it. On a day-to-day basis, this shoe is okay and will work well as a daily wear shoe. For example, if you’re someone looking for a model to wear out and about and to the gym whenever you feel like training, then I think this model will work. I would recommend being conscious of its long-term durability especially when weathering out the outdoor elements. Compared to the Reebok HIIT TR, I do think the Reebok HIIT 2 takes a slight edge for performance, but there is one con to note with this shoe.
