This pattern of declining farm share of consumer food expenditures is apparent in the new global food dollar series as well. We pool the constructed fah, ftah and faafh data to estimate multivariate regression models to illustrate how the global food dollar series correlates with key development indicators such as income and agricultural productivity (see Methods for details, Supplementary Table 4 for variables and data sources, Supplementary Table 5 for results and Supplementary Information for estimation code).
