The story of "Hidden Depths" is hugely compelling. Nothing felt convoluted and every clue had a place in the narrative. The character are, as said, colorful and twists and turns keep coming and coming. Grievous Bottley Harm: Otto Benham is tied down to the lawn while the murderer uses a small catapult to hurl filled bottles at him. His wife, Bernie, sees the whole thing and corrects the murderer's aim. Bizarre Beverage Use: Has-been quiz show host Mike Spicer is forced to answer questions and slowly drowned in wine as he gets them wrong.

Happier Home Movie: A has been celebrity who used to host a TV quiz show is shown at home watching a video of a command performance where he got to meet Princess Diana. He constantly rewinding and re-watching the part where Diana shakes his hand. Richard Hope appeared in "Judgement Day" as Gordon Brierly, the local veterinarian, and seven years later reappeared in the episode "They Seek Him Here", this time as local actor and historian Neville Hayward. The production values are wonderful here with an awesome direction, beautiful music and great cast. All of the acting is good, but the standouts are Nancy Carroll (she's always good to look at), Oliver Ford Davies (whose character is extremely juicy and arrogant) and Robert Daws- who is very fun to watch and whose character could have been played as an annoying freak, which Mike Spicer actually isn't. In May and June 2010, he appeared in Coronation Street as Gail McIntyre's barrister as part of her murder trial storyline where she was wrongly accused of murdering husband Joe McIntyre. Solicitor James Jocelyne ( Timothy Bateson) appeared in "Written in Blood", "Death's Shadow", and "Orchis Fatalis".Daws plays the trumpet, as evidenced when in 1994 he appeared as a guest in the final episode of the BBC comedy series A Bit of Fry and Laurie (series four) and played over the credits, accompanied by Hugh Laurie on the piano. [ citation needed] I really enjoyed the performances of Oliver Ford Davies and Robert Daws, they play two of the most obnoxious, loathsome guys ever seen on the show, but they both do so brilliantly. Nancy Carroll is also excellent, whatever drama she appears in there seems to be a running joke about her husband being spoken about, but always absent, will we ever see Lady Felicia's husband Monty (Father Brown.)

Jones is considerably less naive than Troy or Scott, possessing an insight into cases that neither would have. Jones was born in Wales and remarks about his love for Wales when he and Tom travel there in the episode "Death and Dust".
