Description

I appreciate Adrienne Young wanted to branch-out from YA to Adult genre but sorry to say this book felt more like a YA book than Adult book despite all the characters are in their 30’s or older than that But at the same time, the return of August acted as catalyst. It forced her to make decisions, confront her feelings, live unafraid of what people say and think for once, and find out why he left, what happened all those years ago. I have to say, she was force of nature in last 30%. I admired her the way she confronted everyone and forced everyone to answer her questions, the way she figured out what happened to Lily and why it happened. The ending not only felt rushed, but it very nearly falls apart because of the character chosen to narrate the key reveal. It felt like an easy out. It's super difficult to say any more than that without spoiling the whole book...

If you find yourself always asking, why am I so forgetful and absent-minded? Then it may be time for you to get help with forgetful spells. This kind of thing never gets better; it always gets worse if left unattended. You have to ensure that you are protected from people who may want to cast spells to forget someone you love. These dangerous enemies would also want to cast a spell to erase someone’s memory. A deeply atmospheric story about ancestral magic, an unsolved murder, and a second chance at true love The plot is pretty simple, yes there is murder mystery who dun it type of story but it felt really simple and the plot moved so slow until almost 70% of the story, the characters act and think immature (gah i really dislike Emery) and there are too many POVs and changing so often that felt too similiar in narrative thus make me cannot seperate who is who and everything started to blend The problem with this book is that Emory and August (omg), our star-crossed lovers, are both very boring people who have not done anything in the years they've been apart. The most interesting parts of their lives happened to them as teenagers, and since then they've been going through the motions. VERY minor spoilers: As adults, they're even incapable of solving the crime. Instead of having Emory and/or August solve any part of the mystery, there are about seven additional perspectives added to the mix to reveal vital pieces of information. This makes the whole thing pretty unsatisfying and makes it feel like a YA book, because the teenage years and memories are the best parts of the story. I'm not sure why the time gap is necessary - it would have been much better as a contemporary teen mystery. Or you could give it a couple years if you wanted a time shift. (Like Veronica Mars!) I don't believe in these characters as thirty-somethings.I feel like I didn’t learn anything anything about the two main protagonists. I kind of know how they felt about certain things, however ask me to describe their personalities and I’ll literally just stand there going “uhhhh…I can’t 😕” Narrator: Emily Rankin, Dan Bittner, Mark Deakins, Kimberly Farr, Ari Fliakos, Dawn Harvey, Carrington MacDuffie, Kirsten Potter, Oliver Wyman

Narrated by: Emily Rankin, Dan Bittner, Mark Deakins, Kimberly Farr, Ari Fliakos, Dawn Harvey, Carrington MacDuffie, Kirsten Potter, Oliver Wyman I did like the mythology and magic of Saoirse Island, and it only took me a couple days to read this entire book. I wish the magic had been more prevalent and the characters had been stronger. There's some good stuff in here. It just didn't work for me.

Success!

Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young is a Genre Blend of Mystery-Thriller, Magical Realism, and Romance! This story sits so comfortably at the cross-section of several genres: mystery, thriller, small-town romance, modern fantasy, witch-y, and literary fiction. And it succeeds at all of it!
