Oppenheim, Maya (11 July 2017). "James O'Brien demolishes Leave voter in farcical on-air standoff". The Independent . Retrieved 27 November 2018. James Edward O'Brien (born 1972) [1] is a British radio presenter, podcaster, author, and former tabloid journalist and television presenter. Since 2004, he has been a presenter for talk station LBC, [2] on weekdays between 10 am and 1 pm, hosting a phone-in discussion of current affairs, views and real-life experiences. Between October 2017 and November 2018, he hosted a weekly interview series with JOE titled Unfiltered with James O'Brien. He has occasionally presented BBC's Newsnight. O’Brien, of course, doesn’t want to work at the BBC. He values his “voice” too much for that, which is why he opted not to continue presenting Newsnight – though to my mind, his job at LBC, where he spends his time dismantling the opinions of the people who call in, wastes what talent he has. Surely he would be able to do more good, journalistically speaking, at the BBC than at LBC – a station where one of the presenters, Rachel Johnson, the sister of our former prime minister, once interviewed her father, Stanley, about the state of Britain’s rivers. But perhaps doing good isn’t the point for him. One of the other problems with How They Broke Britain is that however forensically it catalogues the misdemeanours of various politicians, journalists and strategists, it is just that: a catalogue. What needs to be done? Will things be different under a Labour government? Are we all doomed? O’Brien only (inadvertently) answers the last question. He added: "Anybody with a single ounce of integrity, honesty or professionalism could see that he is a disgusting, despicable liar, who has disgraced this country, disgraced our parliament and disgraced our politics." a b "James O'Brien: "On radio, people still talk like no one is listening" ". The Promotion will run on Thursdays between 13 January 2022 to 30 December 2023 on LBC Global is the Promoter. The ‘Prize Provider’ mentioned in these specific rules is Big Sky. O'Brien made national headlines in April 2009 when footballer Frank Lampard phoned his show to object to tabloid stories about his private life and O'Brien's discussion of them. Lampard's former fiancée, Elen Rivas, had alleged that Frank Lampard had turned their home into a bachelor pad while she and Lampard's children were living in a rented flat. Lampard phoned in, objecting to the assertion that he was "weak" and "scum" and said that he had fought "tooth and nail" to keep his family together. [18] Public comments on Lampard's reaction praised Lampard's "brave" and "articulate" handling of the situation. [18] The exchange later earned O'Brien, who defended his conduct in an equally heated exchange with Kay Burley on Sky News, a Bronze Award in the Best Interview category of the 2010 Sony Radio Academy Awards. [19]

O'Brien is married to Lucy McDonald and has two daughters. [17] Politically, O'Brien prefers to be described as ' liberal' rather than 'left-wing'. [43] O'Brien was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and refers to himself as a Christian. He is a Kidderminster Harriers F.C. fan. [44] Books [ edit ]

You're talking about a Prime Minister standing up in the House of Commons and lying through his teeth...lying about events that were unfolding when the rest of us couldn't even kiss our mothers," he continued. O'Brien was born to a teenaged single mother and was adopted, at the age of 28 days, by Jim O'Brien, later a journalist for The Daily Telegraph, and his wife. [3] [4] At the time of James's birth, Jim was working on the Doncaster Evening News. [5] He was educated at the Catholic independent Ampleforth College, and later read Philosophy & Economics at the London School of Economics. [6] Journalism [ edit ] To enter the Promotion, you must call the studio on 0345 6060 973 (the ‘ Phone Line’) during James O’Brien’s Mystery Hour Show on Thursdays from 13 January 2022 to Thursday 28 December 2023 between 1200-1300. Iain Duncan Smith: Remembering the time former Work and Pensions Secretary clashed with James O'Brien". The Independent. 19 March 2016 . Retrieved 9 February 2018.

In 2023, O'Brien's fourth book How They Broke Britain was published by Penguin Books. In the book, he "reveals the shady network of influence that has created a broken Britain of strikes, shortages and scandals". Each chapter focuses on each "particular person complicit in the downfall", such as former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, News Corporation founder Rupert Murdoch, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage and former UK prime ministers, David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss. [13] Broadcasting [ edit ] Of any attempt to downplay partygate he said: "Put it in the bin, put it through the shredder, put him where he belongs in disgrace, in the corner forevermore, stop pretending there are two sides to every story!" There is a correct answer and a false answer on each card, but the player asking the question (the host) is allowed to invent a false answer of their own to replace the one on the card before the game begins. Three points are scored if a player answers the question posed correctly without hearing the correct and false answers first as prompts. One point is scored if a player gets the correct answer, having heard both the correct and false answers (a 50:50 chance). The host can also score two points from each player who chooses their invented answer as the correct answer. The game is relatively simple at its heart, both for good and for bad. The Mystery Hour Board Game won’t change the world but for fans of trivia or those simply looking for a casual family game that will teach you interesting things and ignite discussion, this game certainly deserves a round of applause. Just maybe not the rapturous round of applause that Mystery Hour fans may have been hoping for.
